Two-Day Workshop: Stitch a Lined Jacket

Level 4: Intermediate. You've made several garments and are ready to take on more involved construction.

Stitch the Merchant & Mills Sanda, a boxy, fully lined jacket with a rolled collar and turn-back cuffs. Cut to a cropped length, it's an easy layer for spring and early autumn, worn over a shirt or a knit when a winter coat would be too much.

Under expert guidance, over two days, you'll work through each stage of construction, learning how to handle heavier fabrics and linings for a polished, professional finish. Much of the focus is on the inside, bagging out the lining and reducing bulk so the jacket sits cleanly.

The Sanda has a generous fit, and most stitchers make a size or even two below what they'd usually buy. We have a sample of the jacket in a size 10 in the shop, so do pop in and try it on before you cut out.

We ask all stitchers to come with their pattern and fabric already cut out. Please wait for your preparation email before cutting, as it includes guidance on sizing and fabric.

Booking a class entitles you to 10% off all full price products in the shop (excluding books) from one week before your class starts through to the end of your course.

The paper pattern and all sundries are included. You'll need to bring your outer fabric and lining.

Medium-weight wovens such as cotton twill, canvas, denim, corduroy or wool all work well. Please note that our machines are unable to cope with boiled wool for the buttonholes. For the lining, a silky fabric such as acetate or bamboo silk makes the jacket easy to slip on.

Fabric quantities and a full materials list will be sent after booking.

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to change the date* but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. *Limited to one change only.

If you're running late, please contact us as soon as possible by email. Unfortunately, if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the class starts, we may not be able to admit you as this can disrupt the learning experience for other students.

In the event that we need to cancel a class, we will provide as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or an alternative booking date.

At Ray Stitch, we'd love to welcome stitchers of all ages, but to ensure the best learning experience for everyone, we're unable to accommodate anyone under 12 in our workshops.

Young people aged 12-16 are very welcome in our classes but must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) throughout the entire session. The accompanying adult must book and pay for their own space in the class and participate alongside the young person. Students aged 17 and over can attend classes independently.
